In Moshi, Tanzania, Try Medics has a permanent presence, and our Danish coordinator Frederikke participates throughout the entire program to ensure safety, quality, and a well-functioning placement.

With her background as a nurse and experience in Tanzania, Frederikke is uniquely positioned to ensure your stay in Moshi is a rewarding and educational experience. Together with the rest of our team in Moshi, she helps you settle into the placement, is a support you can always turn to, and follows up on your experiences every day.

Frederikke and the rest of the Moshi team have as their primary task to ensure a safe and supportive framework around your wellbeing, your clinical learning, the community with your group, and the cultural activities offered as a break in your free time. Throughout the program, you live in the Try Medics house in the heart of Moshi. A large and welcoming home exclusively for program participants, it quickly becomes a natural gathering place where new friendships and a strong sense of community develop.

The house is centrally located within short distance of cafés, restaurants, supermarkets, ATMs, and the city centre.

Accommodation is in bright 2 to 4-person rooms with comfortable beds, mosquito nets, and WiFi. The house also offers several shared spaces, including a cosy living room, dining room, and outdoor areas with a terrace, sofa lounge, sun loungers, and a fire pit.

Dedicated housekeeping staff ensure the house is always clean and welcoming. Our cooks prepare three meals a day, Monday to Friday, with most dietary requirements and allergies accommodated with advance notice.

Daily transport between the house and the hospital makes each day simple and safe. The house is a central part of the experience, providing a place to share clinical and personal reflections with fellow participants, while also offering a quiet space to unwind and recharge.

KCMC Outreach Project

Every Wednesday, you will take part in the KCMC Outreach Project, an interdisciplinary initiative bringing together doctors, nurses, midwives, dentists, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists to provide free healthcare in villages across the Kilimanjaro region.

The outreach project offers a unique insight into community-based healthcare in Tanzania, where you experience how healthcare is delivered in resource-limited settings and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities of providing care beyond the hospital. It also offers valuable exposure to interdisciplinary collaboration and cross-cultural healthcare in practice.

Chemka Hotsprings

A hidden oasis just one hour from Moshi. Crystal-clear turquoise water surrounded by lush vegetation and tall trees creating a magical atmosphere. Swim in naturally heated spring water. Try the rope swing and jump into the clear water. Snorkel in extraordinary visibility and spot small fish. Experience the natural fish spa treatment. Enjoy a delicious local lunch. The perfect day trip for relaxation, adventure, and stunning surroundings.

Materuni waterfall and coffee tour
NATURE & CULTURAL

Materuni waterfall and coffee tour

A 45-minute hike through lush surroundings to the impressive 80-metre Materuni Waterfall at the foot of Kilimanjaro. After a break at the waterfall, continue to a nearby village for a coffee tour experiencing the full process from bean to cup. The day ends with a freshly brewed coffee and stories from local guides about the Chagga people who live on the mountain. Afternoon rounds off with a local banana beer in the shade of Kilimanjaro.

Visit NAFGEM, a Tanzanian NGO dedicated to combating female genital mutilation and other harmful traditions affecting women and girls. Learn about their awareness campaigns, workshops, and the three safe houses providing protection and support to girls who have fled FGM or forced marriage. A powerful and horizon-broadening experience.

Zanzibar Getaway

4 days in paradise. Thursday: fly from Moshi to Zanzibar (30 min), stay in Stone Town. Friday: guided Stone Town tour and historic slave market, afternoon to Kendwa Rocks beach resort, beach party evening. Saturday: relaxation day with spa, massage, fitness, or skydiving for the adventurous, evening sunset cruise with local dancers and drums. Sunday: morning free then return to Moshi.

Three-Day Safari to Tarangire and Ngorongoro

Day 1: drive to Tarangire National Park (4 hours), famous for its huge elephant herds and majestic baobab trees. Game drive, lunch in nature, overnight in park campsite under the stars. Day 2: morning game drive in Tarangire, drive to Migombani Camp near Lake Manyara, sunset and dinner. Day 3: early descent into Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the rare black rhino, lion, elephant, and hippo pool. Lunch before returning to Moshi. Kilimanjaro Day Trip

Depart at 07:00 for Marangu village at Kilimanjaro Gate (also known as the Coca-Cola Route). Hike through lush rainforest (3-4 hours) with experienced guide spotting colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and rich birdlife. Reach Mandara Hut at 2,720m for lunch and rest. Short hike to Maundi Crater for panoramic views over Kilimanjaro, northern Tanzania, and Kenya. Return to Moshi for sunset.

A day trip to an authentic Maasai village. Experience Maasai language, customs, and social roles. Guided tour of natural medicinal plants and their uses.
