Ocean Safari

This trip is commonly known as the Blue Safari, offering an unique experience with tropical surroundings around Zanzibar coastline.

The trip takes you to one of the Islands' sandbanks on a traditional Dhow sailboat. From this sandbank, you can snorkel and experience tropical marine life. Coral reefs encircle Zanzibar, creating an unparalleled opportunity for snorkeling in fantastic turquoise blue waters.

Guides on the sandbank will provide you with a snack of tropical fruits and a refreshing drink.

After this, the journey continues to a small island with palm-fringed beaches where the guides will prepare a seafood BBQ while you relax on the beach. This tour is followed by a walk to one of the island's ancient Baobab trees.

After the walk, the Dhow sails on to a lagoon, where there will be an opportunity for swimming among beautiful trees before heading back. If you're lucky, you might spot and possibly swim with some dolphins during the sailing trip!

This is a full-day tour and includes all transportation on land and sea, lunch, and snorkeling equipment.

Spice tour

Have you ever wondered where cinnamon comes from? Does it grow on a tree, inside a tree, or from a plant? Find answers to this and much more with a visit to one of Zanzibar’s many spice plantations.

The island is one of the world's leading producers of spices. Vanilla, pineapple, pepper, cloves, and much more are among the tropical crops grown here. A local guide, knowledgeable about each spice, will take you on a tour of the plantation. Your senses will be treated to a utopia of exotic fruits—you’ll touch, taste, smell, and see some of Zanzibar’s finest!

Swahili lesson

The lesson aims to teach you basic words in the native language of Zanzibar. During the Swahili lesson, you will learn everyday words, gain insight into Zanzibar's culture, and acquire linguistic and cultural tools to navigate well at the hospital. The lesson lasts one hour and is conducted at the Try Medics house by our staff.

Depending on how much you want to learn, additional lessons can be arranged. The people of Zanzibar are incredibly welcoming, and with just a few Swahili greetings, you’ll be met with smiles, laughter, and a helping hand.

Afro-fit

You and your fellow travelers will be invited to an Afro-fit session one afternoon during your stay with Try Medics. The activity lasts one hour and is led by a professional instructor.

Football whit staff

One day after completing your practice session, you and your fellow travelers will have the chance to challenge the Try Medics staff in an exciting and energetic football match. The field is just a short drive from the house, and the event is always a fantastic experience for all participants.

This event brings travelers and staff together in a fun and competitive atmosphere. It’s a great opportunity to strengthen the bonds between you and those who help make your stay unforgettable.

BBQ

Every Friday, we kick off the weekend with a BBQ by the pool at the Try Medics house where you and your fellow travelers are staying. This creates a great sense of community and an opportunity to get to know each other better in a relaxed setting. On the first Friday, we also organize fun icebreaker activities.

We find that a strong sense of camaraderie quickly develops among participants, making it easy to join the program without knowing anyone beforehand. Most participants leave with valuable learning experiences, unforgettable memories, and new friendships to carry home.

Food Market

In the evening, the city gathers in Forodhani Garden, located in the heart of Stone Town with a view of the Indian Ocean. Here, local chefs prepare freshly caught fish and seafood. For a small price, you can enjoy exotic delicacies such as calamari, octopus, shark, kingfish, barracuda, and much more. There are also homemade pizzas and various grilled fruits, including grilled bananas with chocolate. The Forodhani Garden food market is a feast for the senses and an experience full of aroma, culture, and smiles.

The food market prices are very affordable, and you can expect to spend between 5-10$ per meal.

Stone Town tour

Your hospital internship takes place in Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its cultural and historical significance. To help you and your fellow travelers become more familiar and independent, we will take you on a guided tour of the city where you will be staying.

You’ll explore historic buildings, discover great places to eat and shop, and much more. The narrow, maze-like streets are filled with shops where you can bargain for unique finds. After sunset, the city comes alive in the famous Forodhani Garden, hosting a food market with exotic specialties such as kingfish, octopus, crab, calamari, shark, barracuda, and other tropical seafood.
