Are You a Healthcare Student Considering a Placement Abroad?

Complete a structured international clinical placement designed to support academic approval, with supervised hands-on experience tailored to your level of training and guided by experienced healthcare professionals.

Whether as part of your degree or a self-arranged placement during a semester break, gain practical clinical experience, insight into a different healthcare system, and a broader understanding of global healthcare in culturally diverse, resource-limited settings.

An ideal opportunity to broaden your clinical skills and global perspective as a healthcare student.
Academic Approval Support

We facilitate documentation for ECTS credits and formal university approvals.

How Does the Placement Work?

Your Daily Role

In partnership with our local hospital partners, your placement is meticulously arranged before you arrive. You are assigned daily mentors on each ward who guide you through workflows and clinical tasks.

You follow clinical work closely, join patient rounds, and observe procedures. In Tanzania, Uganda, and Zanzibar, there are strong hands-on opportunities, while Sri Lanka is more observation-focused.

Which Departments Can You Access?

Placements are tailored to your field. Nursing and medicine students can specify department preferences. Typically, you rotate through departments every two weeks.

  • Obstetrics

  • Gynaecology

  • Paediatrics

  • Emergency

  • Internal Medicine

Nursing Placements Abroad

Try Medics offers unique opportunities for nursing students seeking a clinical placement abroad. The program gives students clinical experience in an international healthcare context, broadening both professional and cultural horizons.

Students work in hospitals and health clinics guided by experienced healthcare professionals, gaining insight into different medical systems and the ability to work in multicultural teams.

What Does a Typical Day Look Like?

Placements run Monday to Friday, typically from 09:00 to 14:00. Once a week, the schedule extends into the afternoon for a specialized theoretical teaching session.

1h

Weekly theoretical session on health system structures and local primary healthcare challenges.

Can You Combine This With Your Degree?

Generally, there are excellent opportunities to combine our placements with semester programs, especially during the 4th, 5th, 6th, or 7th semesters.

We recommend contacting your academic advisor for pre-approval. We assist with all necessary documentation and can often arrange separate start dates if our standard calendar doesn't align with your institution.

Cultural Experiences Around Your Placement

Typically 12-20 students are on placement at the same time across different institutions and semesters, ensuring a strong community forms quickly. Included activities:

Who Looks After You?

Each destination has a dedicated team including a program leader who introduces you to the hospital, monitors your wellbeing, and manages your progress. Plus, our in-house cooks, housekeepers, and drivers are there to support your daily life.

Many students join our program without knowing anyone beforehand. Our community forms fast, often starting in our private Facebook group months before departure.

We suggest shared flight routes so you can meet up even before you leave the ground. This is a unique chance to combine professional growth with lifelong friendships.
